The Epigenetics Perspectives In Communities (EPIC) Study lays the groundwork for improving communication about a key concept in genomics called epigenetic modification. It will explore the ethical, legal, and social implications (ELSI) of current epigenetic-related communications, including how such communications could shape harmful beliefs (e.g., genetic determinism, essentialism, racism, stigma). Then it will identify and create strategies for communicating about epigenetics in a way that is not harmful. The results of this project will be transformed into a toolkit to support the information needs of basic scientists, clinicians, laypeople, and journalists.

This project is currently in progress. If you would like additional information about the study, please contact me at waterse@wustl.edu. We are currently seeking a postdoctoral fellow, research assistant, and/or intern for this project. For more details, click here
